Copier Health Considerations

Your copier may be making employees sick

Did you know that most copiers on the market are producing VOC’s? Many people that hear this for the first time don’t know what VOC’s are, much less that their copier is making them. VOC is an acronym for volatile organic compounds, and as you may have guessed they are not good to breath. The VOC that copiers produce the most of is ozone and if you want to find out for sure you need to as “how much does the corona wire cost on this machine?” If it’s an included cost in the actual price then your copier is producing ozone. Here are a few facts from Web MD about the effects of ozone.

  • Lung irritation that causes inflammation.
  •  Coughing, wheezing, and pain when taking a deep breath.
  • Permanent lung damage from repeated exposure.
  • Aggravation of asthma, higher chances of pneumonia, and decreased lung capacity.

There are steps to keeping safe from this like positioning of the copier away from desks, etc. It is certainly worth considering, however.
