Paper Jams 101

It’s a small problem that can throw a wrench into your whole day. At first you are printing important documents with ease. Then, suddenly, your copier stops working and you can’t figure out why. Most people who have worked in an office have encountered this type of situation at least once. That’s why at Copier Sacramento we want to help you understand your copier and give you all a little lesson on paper jams.

Paper jams are probably the most common problem that copiers encounter. They can happen for a variety of reasons, but luckily, they are easy to fix. Simply follow this little guide on paper jams 101 and you should be able to get your copier up and running in no time.

  1. Locate the paper jam. It may seem intuitive, but this is the first place you start. Look in the paper tray first, as that is usually the trouble spot. If the jam is not there then you may need to look deeper into your copier.
  2. Remove the torn paper. Once you find the cause of the paper jam, SLOWLY remove the paper. It is very important to be careful when removing the paper from your copier. There are a lot of delicate parts inside a printer and you do not want to accidentally break something else. Slowly pull out the paper. Do not yank or pull aggressively on the paper.
  3. Check the inside for any other loose paper or torn scraps. Make sure that you have removed all pieces that could cause trouble. There’s nothing worse than fixing a problem only to have something small make it happen again.
  4. Clean the print brushes. If your copier still is not printing then consider running a cleaning program. This will clean your brushes and remove and lasting pieces of paper or dust that may cause an issue.

If you still cannot get your copier to work then you may have a larger issue at hand. At Copier Sacramento we will help anyone with one of our copier leases get up and running. Gives us a call and we would be happy to help you troubleshoot the issue.
